In 2024 and 2025, Almine Rech presented Visages, an exhibition in two chapters that explored the many rich themes surrounding the depiction of the human face. Bringing together views from the New York and Gstaad exhibitions, along with an essay by Sarah Lehrer-Graiwer, this catalogue delves into representations of the face across artistic movements and mediums. Featuring works by Marie Laurencin, Pablo Picasso, Ali Cherri, Genieve Figgis, and Chloe Wise, among others, it is enriched by Lehrer-Graiwer’s insightful essay analyzing the role of faces in art.

In an era marked by pandemic-driven isolation, the rise of cosmetic intervention, and the proliferation of computer-generated imagery, the face has never been more relevant—a subject of renewed scrutiny and profound significance. Visages examines these themes through the work of both historical and contemporary artists, endeavoring to answer a timely question: Why faces now?

Published in conjunction with Visages, held in Almine Rech New York, Upper East Side, Nov 7 — Dec 14, 2024 and Visages, held in Almine Rech Gstaad, Feb 12 — Mar 16, 2025, this catalogue includes an essay by Sarah Lehrer-Graiwer.
