Ugo Rondinone is a renowned mixed-media artist who lives and works in New York. Over the past twenty years, he has been exploring the figure of the contemporary artist and his relation to the world, but also the relation between the viewer and the artwork, whether the work induces a contemplation, reverie, or meditation. His work has been shown in numerous exhibition centres throughout the world, such as Le Consortium, Dijon (1997), the Kunstverein, Stuttgart (2002), or the Pompidou Centre, Paris (2003). He represented Switzerland at the 52nd Venice Biennale and curated the exhibition The Third Mind at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris in 2007. Recent solo shows include, your age my age and the age of the rainbow, The Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscow (2017); let’s start this day again, Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati (2017); every time the sun comes up, Place Vendome, Paris (2016); girono d’oro + notti d’argento, Mercati die Traiano, Rome (2016); becoming soil, Carre d’Art, Nîmes (2016); vocabulary of solitude, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam (2016); Ugo Rondinone: I ♥︎ John Giorno, Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2015), among others. His work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, and the Dallas Museum of Art, among others.
