Features ‘Plastics’, an essay by Joachim Pissarro.

This book is published in conjunction with the exhibition Plastic Show, organized by De Wain Valentine, held at Almine Rech London, from February 9th to March 25th, 2017.

Known for their pioneering work with various synthetic resins and synthetic polymers during the 1960s and ‘70s, the five artists in this book (Mary Corse, Robert Irwin, Craig Kauffman, John McCracken and De Wain Valentine) are today recognized not only for their active roles in the development of plastics as a newly discovered medium in art, but also for their sophisticated techniques and at times even quasi-acrobatic prowess required to shape them into the seamless, translucent, luscious volumes.

Shipping, customs duties and taxes are at the buyer's expense.

by

John McCracken

Although working with the Minimalist theory from the outset, John McCracken (1934-2011) has never denied individual sensibility and the artist’s manual activity in favour of industrial manufacture. Both painting and sculpture, the ’plank’, is a wood core, spray painted and cast in colored Polyester resin lacquer.
