Damien Steven Hirst (born 7 June 1965) is an English artist, entrepreneur, and art collector. He is one of the Young British Artists (YBAs), who dominated the art scene in the UK during the 1990s.
Both festive and enticing, this vibrant spot variation undoubtedly shows how versatile this signature series can be. The delightful contrast between the twenty-four different pure colours of the spots and the mesmerizing golden leaves on the background offers a spectacular and refreshing visual impact but also celebrates Damien Hirst’s indisputable thirst for experimenting with the newest techniques of print making. “Gold Thioglucose” recalls Byzantine art, when the golden backgrounds signified the presence of the divine. In using this same juxtaposition with his famous spots, Damien Hirst relates his own series to iconic status.
