Acapulco

€1.500,00 EUR

by George J. Sowden

2025

Edition of 30

Originally produced in 1981 for Karl Lagerfeld's apartment in Monaco, and now part of Memphis' catalogue, this limited edition has been created especially on the occasion of 'Francesco Vezzoli presents KARL GOES TO MEMPHIS, Tribute to a historic encounter in Monte Carlo', an exhibition held at Almine Rech Monaco between March 20 and May 24, 2025.

In the Acapulco table clock designed by George Sowden, functional quality and rationality combine with the emotional impact of decorative and chromatic verve.

Acapulco has solid geometric forms, two stacked cubes; nevertheless, the compositional rigor is broken up by the different sizing of the two solids, adorned by vibrant contrasting patterns. The extremely creative use of decorative laminate sets the character of this object-totem.

The red face is underscored by the frame in the same color; red also appears in the lightning bolts of the pattern of the “box” below. The hands and the hour markers have forceful rays, without numbers; at the center the overlap of the three hands is emphasized by a blue circle.

Production time: 60-90 days from order confirmation.
