Playing with different notions of value as well as the confluence of the material and the spiritual in religious, commercial, and artistic realms, this work is suitably–and typically for Hirst–provocative. The use of Latin suggests a Christian God, but with the absence of any imagery relating to this tradition, leaves the viewer wondering in which God to place their confidence. Like much of his work, Hirst introduces polemic questions to provoke debate.
